Hey everybody. I thought it would be interesting to post the status of this blog and some statistics. First of all, I’m looking for new ideas on stuff to add. What would you like to see? Post whatever you want to see in the comments. One idea that came up was an “Ask geowrian” section for people to ask me questions about anything from programming to security to gaming to anime to whatever you can think of. I like that idea but is anybody even interested? Drop me a line and let me know.

Hey everybody. Sorry for not posting in a few days…I barely have time to sit down anymore. It’s one of those weeks…

Anyway, today I’m reviewing the game Dokapon Kingdom for the Nintendo Wii, published by Atlus. Atlus has made many role-playing games (RPGs) and tactics-based games since I was a child, including:

  • Many Bomberman games
  • The Ogre Battle series
  • The Disgaea series
  • The Trauma Center series
  • Brigandine

Overview

Dokapon Kingdom is a party-style game with many RPG elements. The overall gameplay is very similar to the Mario Party series and plays best when you play with several other people. However, unlike typical party games, Dokapon Kingdom has a story mode that allows a single player or more to work on missions as you play through the game. The main goal in Dokapon Kingdom in story mode is to obtain the highest net worth to appease the Dokapon King. Your net worth is determined by the amount of money you collect and the value of the towns you control. Controlling a town consists of either defeating a boss-style monster in a battle or taking it from another player under certain circumstances.

Hey everyone. I logged into my Bank of America credit card account today, like I do every few days or so, to see what’s going on and make sure nothing funny is going on. I usually have $0.00 balance on my card since I hate paying interest. Anyway, my credit card account was gone. Say what??? My card was active and I had $0 balance on it. Heck, they automatically upgraded me to a newer, premium plan not long ago and sent me a brand new card. I had that account with them since Freshmen year of college (7 or so years ago) and it was never behind on payments and had a very high credit limit.

Immediately, I contacted their live support to see what was going on. I’m thinking they had a technical error or something happened with my account. The customer support representative was very friendly, but immediately told me the account was closed. Closed?! I asked why but they couldn’t give me a answer and told me to call them at a certain number. I asked why I wasn’t told that my account was canceled. Once again, they couldn’t tell me anything and told me to call the number. Screw that. This is ridiculous. Bank of America isn’t worth the time or effort if they can’t even contact me before closing my account for an unknown reason.

I love programming. Give me something to to code and I’ll usually be happy. Name a programming language and I have either done something in it already, want to do something in it, or am willing to learn it.

Actually…I don’t *always* love coding. I’m completely coded out right now. I hope I don’t have to see another line of code for a while, but I know that’s not the case. Between work and home, I have been spending a large portion of my waking hours programming. I can’t wait for the weekend. Better yet, hopefully there will be a snow day. I could use the rest.

P.S. International character support via Unicode/UTF-8 should only be used with recent programming languages. I’m trying to do something simple in Visual Basic 6 and it’s ignoring  my Japanese characters. Maybe I should start over and write it in java…

My tax refund just came in. Over $8600 due to the first time home-owner’s credit, which provides me with $7500 that I have to pay back (interest-free) at $500 per tax year for the next 15 years. Since we put the money towards the mortgage, we will split the $500 per tax year expenses. It saves us over $20,000 in interest on the mortgage, so we couldn’t pass it up. Also, we can hopefully drop the PMI shortly, so that will save about $55 per month. Anyway, that’s $7500 spent today.

I also paid off one of my student loans today, so that took out another chunk of my checking account. Add my 6-month car insurance payment and the new shower payment that were applied today. I also transferred $3000 to my savings account. When it’s all said and done, I my checking account’s balance dropped around $14,000 in the past 24 hours. I need a drink…

Robyn and I had somebody from Bath Fitter do an in-home estimate to add a shower to our bath. I love showers, but we only had 2 bathtubs…what a drag. Too bad they’re expensive to install (especially when you don’t have the existing plumbing, wall material, or 3 walls). Doing anything with the the bathroom or kitchen is really expensive. At least it will raise the value of the house, and we get to use it. plus it has a lifetime warranty, including all materials and labor, including plumping (i.e. if the pipes leak or break or anything). We probably got screwed on the pricing, but I think it’ll work out for the best in the end.

Anyway, we priced out what we wanted and we should hopefully have a brand new shower in the coming month or two.

I hate .NET

Nothing much to say here right now…I don’t like .NET. It’s overly complicated to do simple stuff, requires a whole much of runtimes to be installed on the user’s computer, errors a lot (including Microsoft products), and causes all kinds of compatibility issues. For instance, some programs require .NET framework 1.x to be installed. Others require 2.x. They are two separate packages and don’t work with each other. Now, add the fact that another program may require .NET Framework 2.0 SP2. You would think 2.0 SP2 would work with the 2.0 SP1 or earlier program, right? Nope…it kills a bunch. Now you are stuck with having to choose which program is more important sine you can’t have them both running on the same computer at the same time. »

Robyn’s looking for a doggie. Actually, she’s looking for an Alaskan Malamute. If anybody knows anybody looking to part with one, or where to get one, drop me a note. Thanks.
