About

Who is Ryan?
I’m just a typical geek living a typical geek life. I am a Systems Administrator /Programmer Analyst for Misericordia University. Fancy title, but what does it really mean? I do a lot of the behind-the-scenes work with servers on and off campus. I also do general maintenance, security patching, troubleshooting, upgrades, etc. I also assist the Student Helpdesk on campus with computer, cable TV, network/Internet, etc. issues. I deal very heavily with I.T. security and security is always forefront in my mind. I also work with Misericordia’s 2+2+2 Workforce Leadership Program to prepare the next generation of I.T. security professionals for real world jobs. The program works with local high schools, community colleges, and Misericordia University. If you are interested, then contact me or anybody in admissions at Misericordia University and you should be able to get all the information you need.

I deal with live radio streaming, wireless door/elevator access to buildings, high-tech classrooms via AMX, vulnerability assessment, cryptography, Microsoft Exchange, live emergency alerts, document imaging, etc. The list never ends and gets larger by the day. I also do the planning, designing, implementation, testing, and troubleshooting of many standalone and web applications for various systems. Currently, I work mostly with Visual Basic, PHP, ASP, Coldfusion MX, HTML, Javascript + AJAX, VBScript, shell/SH, Java, and JSP. I have been programming heavily since 6th grade and love it. Check out my resume for more information and more a full listing of my experiences and skills.

I have been working with Misericordia University (formerly College Misericordia) since 2004. I started as a computer technician and worked my way up to the Senior Student Network Technician, and eventually landed a salaried position. It’s a difficult job, and it has its very bad days, but I love it. My boss and coworkers make sure I am always dealing with something new and exciting.

Oh yeah, I assist a gaming and anime club on campus with their website. Visit SAGE for more information. They are currently hosting an event with the English voice of Edward Elric from the Fullmetal Alchemist TV show. Head on over to their website if you are interested and want to learn more.

What types of games do you like?
I love all types of games, but I tend to drift towards RPGs, classics, and exotic games. Simple games with a twist go a long way. Games like Wii Fit, Trauma Center, Suzumiya Haruhi no Gekidou (dance game), DDR, Rock Band, Command and Conquer, World of Goo, etc. My favorite RPGs/Quest games are Final Fantasy 7, Final Fantasy 3/6, Phantasy Star IV, Zelda (all prior to Windwaker) + Twlight Princess, Tales of Vesperia, Eternal Sonata, Granstream Saga, Ar Tonelico, etc. I also like some fighting games…mostly imports from Japan such a Naruto: Gekitou Ninja Taisen 4 / Shippuuden EX 2. I could go on all day…I’m a classic gamer.

What types of anime and manga do you like?
Wow…this is another long one. I don’t really have a “genre” that I follow. I like everything from comedy to school life to mahou shoujo to haram to mecha. My favorites are probably Ai Yori Aoshi, Bleach, Card Captor Sakura, Chobits, Code Geass, Death Note, Inuyasha, Love Hina, Naruto, Rurouni Kensin, School Days, Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuuutsu. I also really enjoyed Zero no Tsukaima, Tokyo Mew Mew, Shakugan no Shana, and Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni. I probably missed a bunch. You can see my list of previously watched and currently watching series at my profile page on Anime-Planet.com.
